Book Review – Fools Die by Mario Puzo (Mobflix rating 3 stars out of 4)
Combine the series Madmen with Las Vegas, Hollywood, New York, and Tokyo. Throw in a connected Casino Manager skimming money for the Mob, an arrogant Hemingway type author, movie producers, agents, actors, actresses, and a Japanese business tycoon and you have the making s of Fools Die.
Puzo manages to weave all these elements together with plenty of late 1950’s / early 1960’s male chauvinism, sex, alcohol, and gambling, sprinkled with King Arthur and Merlyn the Magician.
The book centers around John Merlin, an orphaned WWII vet and his adventures as a gambler, author, screenwriter, and Army clerk on the take.
We give Fools Die by Mario Puzo 3 out of 4 stars
